Our singers are fantastic at many different genres…but we specialise in comedy personalisation!

FAQs

You’ll probably only hire one personalised surprise once in your life, so you’ll obviously have a few questions! Here are our most commonly asked ones with our answers…

Q. where are you based, and do you travel?

A. Our singers are London based, but we travel everywhere for our surprises. We perform all around the UK and have been abroad many times. Obviously though, when considering booking us further afield, the budget may need to factor in flights, accommodation, and expenses as well as our fee. But anything is possible!

Q. how much notice do you need?

A. Ideally, as much as possible! But we know sometimes that good ideas (like hiring a personal surprise) can come to you last minute. So always ask us - if we don’t have time to put together something amazing, or are booked up, we’ll be honest and let you know. For Saturdays in the summer, do get in early - that’s height of wedding season, and we can be booked up to 18 months in advance!

Q. How does the personalisation element work?

A. For our Tailors Full experiences, during the booking process, we get to know you and figure out the basics - like how the surprise might start. Then 6 weeks before the event, we’ll send you a form to fill out - after that, we have a consultation call over the phone with you (if you’re London based, we love to do this in person instead!) that lasts about an hour. We’ll ask you lots of questions about you, your guests, the event…our clients love this part! And it’s not unusual for us to speak to another person too if you’d like us to - like your other half, or someone else from the company, if it’s a corporate event.
For our ‘Parody Waiter’ experience, it’s a much simpler form to fill out with the names of some of your key guests and a few fun facts!

Q. Can you personalise a performance with minimal input from me?

A. Not for our Full experiences - this is a joint effort! We do need to get some personal information from someone, in order to give the surprise that magical insight. If you’re unable to speak to us, you could let someone else ‘in on it’ and they can perhaps give us the information we need!

If you’re looking for minimal effort though, our ‘Parody Waiter’ experience or one of our musical surprises or dancing waiter surprises might be better suited for you, worth checking out!

Q. can I pick all the songs?

A. We can definitely include your favourites! But some songs are suited to comedy personalisation, and others are not - so for the majority of the set, we’d ask you to trust us. Over the years, we’ve come up with lots of different medleys to suit various events - and each set has been meticulously put together. Therefore how we work, is we start with a ‘skeleton’ of a set, featuring very well known songs that your guests will love - and then based on the information you give us, we alter that framework to suit your event, AND your music choices, so you’ll be sure to love what we come up with! If you’d like a list of songs that we commonly feature, just ask.

And after the personalised section, we also sing one or two ‘singalong’ numbers - your favourite song can possibly be featured here! And we’ve put together singalong ‘medleys’ for our clients too of their favourite artists…Take That, ABBA, George Michael, and Disney are all medleys we’ve come up with in the past.

Q. Can I hear the set before the show?

A.  After the consultation call, you’ll have a good idea of what we’ll come up with, because you’ve given us all the info! After we’ve written it, we’d be happy to give you an overview - but for most events, we prefer not to divulge the exact set beforehand, because we like it to be a complete surprise for you, too. After all, you’re putting in a lot of effort - so it should be a magical experience for you as well! We’ve had nothing but 5* reviews and complete satisfaction with our performances in the past, so we’re confident that you’ll absolutely love it. If you have any concerns at all though, do let us know, and we’d be happy to help.

Q. How long is the performance?

A. It depends on what kind of event we’re performing at - and is definitely adjustable dependent on your needs. But to give you an idea, we’ve found these to be the optimum time frames for most events:

Bear in mind that your guests aren’t expecting a show - and we are not a background act, like a band. We have the guest’s full attention throughout, with high impact laughs and interaction. It’s quality over quantity - the last thing you want is for a performance to drag on. If your guests cheer for an encore though (happens all the time!) we’ll always have one prepared!

Q. Can I request particular performers?

If you fall in love with one of our team from the videos, do let us know, and we’ll do our upmost to cast them on your event! However, please note that we cannot ever 100% guarantee the attendance of particular performers - this is because our team have other commitments outside of The Tailors that may render them unavailable at certain times, or may already be booked on a job with us at another event (or take the occasional holiday!)

But rest assured, the members of our small team have all been handpicked and trained up to ensure that the quality of our work remains consistent across the board, with each performer bringing their own personality and flair to each surprise! You can find the biographies of each of our team on our Meet The Team page, and we can confirm which specific singers will be on your event no later than 3 weeks prior to it.

Q. Do you need to rehearse in my venue and what do you bring with you?

A. For events of over 25-30 guests, we bring with us our full sound equipment, and where necessary, a separate sound engineer. This means we usually arrive at the venue quite early, in order to discreetly set up our equipment, have a brief soundcheck, and familiarise ourselves with the space. We’ll also bring our waiter outfits (worked out with the venue beforehand) and of course our trusty guitar, which we will hide somewhere in the room, ready to be whipped out at the right moment!

Q. Do you do opera?

A. In the past, we’ve been known to incorporate Nessum Dorma at the end of our performance on the request of a bride - it got a standing ovation! Our vocalists are world class, so we can normally accommodate a request for an unusual song or a different genre, after the personalised section. However, if you’re looking for a full Opera set, that’s not what we offer - there are a few singing waiter companies that do, so they would be more suitable for you. Or, you could check out our ‘Musical’ surprises and have a piece put together from your favourite show or film!

Q. Can I have just one singer?

A. Unfortunately not - our minimum team is two singers. Half the fun of our performances comes from the chemistry and banter between our team - and having two singers allows for some beautiful musical moments and harmonies. Plus, all those personalised lyrics would be CRAZY for one person to learn on their own!

Q. How much do you charge?

A.  A lot of factors go into our pricing, including what type of performance you’re having, and how far we have to travel to your venue. But to give you an idea, our prices for proposals start at £850. For parties & weddings, our ‘Parody’ sets start at £1200, and Full Personalised Experiences start at £1450, plus travel and expenses outside of London.

Q. Are there any other costs to consider?

A.  We factor all travel, equipment and accommodation where needed, into our quotes. The only other cost involved with hiring our team, is feeding us at your event! We can obviously sort this with the venue direct, but since our team often travel a while to get to you and are there a long time before your guests arrive, we require a hot meal for each performer (plus one for the sound engineer if we’re bringing one.) This is not required on an outdoor performance in London, however (like a proposal!)

Q. Do you take a deposit?

A.  We do indeed! We take a 25% deposit to secure the date, and then the remaining fee isn’t due until 14 days after the performance (so you can keep the surprise a SURPRISE!)

Q. Do you offer a dj service, or any other extras?

A.  At the moment, we do not offer a DJ service. However, depending on the event, we CAN offer you;

Our friendly team would love to talk to you about your event and answer any additional questions you have. Call us today on 02078673769, or contact us using our contact page!
